AtABCG14: A Long-Distance Root-to-Shoot Carrier of Cytokinin

نویسندگان

چکیده

Root-synthesized cytokinins regulate the growth, development, and stress responses of aboveground tissues follow transport route via xylem tissue. Arabidopsis ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter G family member 14 (AtABCG14) is involved in loading root-synthesized cytokinins. However, phloem unloading cytokinin shoot distribution have remained elusive. The recent study by Zhao et al., (2021) proved that AtABCG14 protein mediates through apoplastic pathway indicating a master regulator distribution.

Arabidopsis ABCG14 is essential for the root-to-shoot translocation of cytokinin.

Cytokinins are phytohormones that induce cytokinesis and are essential for diverse developmental and physiological processes in plants. Cytokinins of the trans-zeatin type are mainly synthesized in root vasculature and transported to the shoot, where they regulate shoot growth. However, the mechanism of long-distance transport of cytokinin was hitherto unknown. Here, we report that the Arabidop...

Control of shoot and root meristem function by cytokinin.

Plant hormones regulate a variety of processes fundamental for growth and development. Recent studies have clearly shown that establishing adequate spatial and temporal distribution of hormones is central in the control of development. The activity of cytokinins (CKs) is essential to maintain undifferentiated cells in shoot apical meristem (SAM) and to promote cell differentiation in the root m...

Long-distance root-to-shoot transport of phytochelatins and cadmium in Arabidopsis.

Phytochelatin synthases (PCS) mediate cellular heavy-metal resistance in plants, fungi, and worms. However, phytochelatins (PCs) are generally considered to function as intracellular heavy-metal detoxification mechanisms, and whether long-distance transport of PCs occurs during heavy-metal detoxification remains unknown. Here, wheat TaPCS1 cDNA expression was either targeted to Arabidopsis root...

Cytokinin acts through the auxin influx carrier AUX1 to regulate cell elongation in the root.

Hormonal interactions are crucial for plant development. In Arabidopsis, cytokinins inhibit root growth through effects on cell proliferation and cell elongation. Here, we define key mechanistic elements in a regulatory network by which cytokinin inhibits root cell elongation in concert with the hormones auxin and ethylene. The auxin importer AUX1 functions as a positive regulator of cytokinin ...

Arabidopsis cytokinin receptor mutants reveal functions in shoot growth, leaf senescence, seed size, germination, root development, and cytokinin metabolism.

We used loss-of-function mutants to study three Arabidopsis thaliana sensor histidine kinases, AHK2, AHK3, and CRE1/AHK4, known to be cytokinin receptors. Mutant seeds had more rapid germination, reduced requirement for light, and decreased far-red light sensitivity, unraveling cytokinin functions in seed germination control. Triple mutant seeds were more than twice as large as wild-type seeds....
